The area is so full of things to do, that you will not likely find yourself bored. Early mornings when you are enjoying your coffee is the perfect time to watch the White Tailed Deer grazing near the cabins.
Then in the evening there is a herd of 40-50 Axis Deer that pass through. The Axis Deer is often considered the most beautiful of the deer family. Both male and female have eye-catching reddish-brown coats marked by white spots arranged in rows along their sides. They have a black stripe down their backs and white bibs on their neck, white inner legs, stomach, and under-tail. The Male heights range as tall as 39.5 inches. The Axis at maturity, weigh as much as 250 pounds. Males have antlers, and darker facial markings with a more "scowling" expression the older they get. Bucks are larger bodied, and have thicker necks and broader chests than the does. The female Axis are as tall as 33 inches and weigh up to 150 pounds. Free ranging Axis populations exist in the continental United States, Hawaii, and Australia. In the United States, Texas, by far, has the largest population. The Axis was introduced to Texas in 1932.
